The iconic Japanese studio monitor with the white cone was originally passive so you always needed a separate amplifier. White-conus fan of the first hour Chris Lord Alge prefers to keep his setup compact so there is now the CLA-10A. That 'A' does indeed stand for 'active'. Avantone has opted for a 200W RMS class AB amplifier per speaker here. In the old days, when people wanted to tame the high end a bit, they stuck a tissue in front of the tweeter. Unfortunately, that tissue is not supplied. Instead, the CLA-10A speakers feature a Virtual Tissue Paper Control, VTPC for short.
