The Cherry Audio GX-80 is their flagship model and an emulation of the highly esteemed Yamaha GX1 and CS-80 synthesizers. Brought together to combine the unparalleled sound and features of each renowned synth the GX-80 is a transformative Yamaha GX1 and CS-80 VST plug-in. Featuring carefully crafted circuit-modelled DSP designs in collaboration with Award-winning designer Mark Barton Cherry Audio has replicated every nuance of both classic synths to create the most authentic emulation of its kind.
The fabled GX-1 "Dream Machine" and its renowned descendent the CS-80 are legendary in the synth world. The CS-80 is one of the most coveted polyphonic analog synthesizers ever created. Originally released in 1976 featuring eight-voice assign polyphony velocity and aftertouch sensitivity and a massive sound. Made legendary by Vangelis in the classic sci-fi Bladerunner. The GX1 released in 1974 with only around 20 units represented the cutting-edge of organ and analog synth tech. Out of reach for most musicians owing to an exorbitant price tag and exceptional rarity the GX-1 was famously used by Stevie Wonder Keith Emerson Benny Andersson of ABBA and later by John Paul Jones of Led Zepplin. Now you too can explore the remarkable sonic territories of both the CS-80 and GX1 together.
Bringing the best of both worlds and then some the GX-80 reintegrates the GX-1s distinctive features back into the CS-80 architecture. Dual synth layers add twice the impact and additional waveforms with variable resonators add range and depth to your sounds. Most notably the GX-80 includes a meticulous recreation of the legendary GX-1 filter that offers magnificent timbres that even the CS-80 cannot achieve.
