The MPC-style sampler/sequencer is a pillar in music history. Often hefty devices too, could it actually be smaller? 1010music does a good job with the blackbox drum computer. At its core, this is a (phrase-)sampler/drum computer in a very handy format, where samples are streamed from a microSD card. No physical pads, but a hefty touch-display that basically says everything you need. The relevant capabilities for sampliing are present: looping, slicing, and, of course, sequencing. And all that in a format not much different from an old thick double-CD box.
