Djembes
What is a djembe?
A djembe is a type of drum that originates from West Africa. It is traditionally made from a single piece of wood, carved into a goblet shape, and covered with goat skin. Modern versions may use synthetic drum head materials such as Fiberskyn, giving a natural look and traditional skin sound with the durability of a plastic head. The djembe is known for its rich, deep tones and is played with the hands rather than with sticks.
Shape: Goblet-shaped, allowing for a variety of tones.
Materials: Typically made from hardwood and an animal skin or synthetic drum head.
Playing Technique: Played with bare hands, producing different sounds based on how and where the drum is struck.
How much does a djembe cost?
Prices start at £24 and go up to £1,018 for a deluxe or signature model. Expect to spend around £175 for a mid-range djembe.
